The Big Deal in Churches
Could it be possible that God has poured all the resources necessary into the chutrch to reach our to our communities and even transform them for good?
Perhaps the trouble is that the church is often so disconnected and divided into denominations, streams and organisations. If every church in any borough worked together they would be the biggest single source of volunteers by miles. There is so much untapped potential.
The aim of the Big Deal in churches is to encourage unity between churches. To build new relationships between congregations and a sense of partnership and recognition of God's call for us to be as one:
"My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me." John 17: 20-21 (NIV)
The Big Deal forms a sort of 'banner' under which churches can work together. The Big Deal acts as a catalyst. It isn't over perscriptive but it does form a framework in which churches feel comfortable to step forward and do more.
It also releases a new opportunity for the church to relate in a more strategic way to the police and council in any given borough.
Relationships are best built by doing things together. That's why the community action projects and prayer events are a great catalyst toward true unity of purpose.
