Salford

In 2005 the first Big Deal year took place in Salford. Churches from across the city united together and took part in action in their community. Here are a couple of examples of some of the things achieved that year.

  • Over 50 churches opened their doors simultaneously for 'The Big Brew'.
  • Over the Big Deal Weekend many tonnes of rubbish was removed and 20 community action projects were completed.
  • Thousands turned out and heard the gospel over the Big Deal Weekend.
  • Many churches have held free community fun days.
  • Over 10 Salford High schools have had the Big Deal Schools Team in for a week of mission. The other 7 should be complete by Easter 06!
  • The Eden Bus goes into Lower Broughton each week, enabling some of Salfords most disaffected youth to be impacted by the Christian message.
  • 7 free Church hosted community BBQ's took place simultaneously across Salford.
  • In Eccles 7 churches partnered together to clean up the community and hold a fun day.
  • On the back of one schools week a new bi-monthly youth night started and saw 220-250 youth attend each time!

That was just the start of things to come. Through working together churches have been motivated to reach out to the community in more and more ways. Every church have played their part and done what they were able but it doesn't stop here! The Big Deal may have moved on but the work in Salford continues as churches have been inspired and new relationships have been formed. Last year a second Big Deal Weekend event took place in Buile Hill Park and another huge fun day is planned for 2007 for Victoria Park as part of the Unexpected Campaign. For further information on this event please contact Ruth Lacey at the Message office.

Schools
The Big Deal Schools Team have been into 10 of Salford's High Schools and had a fantastic time. The young people have heard the Christian Message presented in a way that fulfils and compliments the curriculum as well as enjoying an end of week multi-media presentation.
